Dog Days of Summer
This past Tuesday, we held the last beer senate before our summer hiatus. The weather was in tune with our “Dog Days of Summer” theme, the only cure: a cold one with the boys (and girls) at Haileys. All of our beers were dog-themed, and our food was a nice surprise of Asian Classics.
Beer one, the Ottercreek Backseat Berner (7%), is a classic American IPA. Named after the brewmaster’s Bernese mountain dog, Oslo, this beer was the first IPA curated by the Vermont brewery. Paired with this brew, was a Hailey’s take on another classic- Asian Hot Pot soup. Who says irish-asian cuisine isn’t a thing? Duck, Scallions, and fish leaf are only a few of the ingredients in the first course. As we expanded our tastebud’s range in taste, the second beer was poured.
Beer Senate May 2017
It's hard to decide which I love more, beer, or my home state of NJ. Luckily enough, the pub shares my dilemma, and thus the May Beer Senate became the “Garden State Brew” senate.
As the senate piled in, debate on the Jersey Devil, and New Jersey Giants, “The stadium is in East Rutherford!!!”, filled the room, commencing the senate.
Straight out of the Jersey Shore- Asbury Park, Dark City Brewing provided us the Populous ( ABV 7%). With a crisp coffee-roasted taste, this porter proves Jerseyans have mastered the art of breakfast beer. The first course was intricate to say the least; pork chop with onion-glazed apples, accompanied by walnut-bacon garnished coleslaw. The best of all worlds and food groups, pleased even the most detail-oriented of senators.
To paraphrase the famous (though unofficial) creed of the US Postal Service seems fitting when describing the "creed" of the Hailey's Beer Senators and its President Pro Tempore, Moshe Atzbi.
There’s no need to be nervous when meeting Hailey’s Irish Mother-In-Law for the very first time. Nothing like that initial, awkward meet and greet, this burger is the type of in law that you’ll want to hang out with. This alternative baked potato in burger form is topped with shredded cheddar, hot chili, sour cream, red onions, and scallions; it goes perfect with a shot of Irish whiskey. Head in on Wednesday’s and check out the retro-cade for High Score Wednesdays on their arcade machines from yesteryear. 400 Main Street, Metuchen 732-321-0777 haileysharpandpub.com
St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, and with every green beer that New Jerseyans will be raising to celebrate their genuine (or pseudo) Irish heritage on March 17, they will also be keeping their palates happy in another way — with some scrumptious Irish dishes.
Hailey's Harp-Cade, a classic game arcade attached to Hailey's Harp and Pub, is now open for business in Metuchen
METUCHEN – Most bustling downtowns have an abundance of popular restaurants and colorful retail shops. But in the age of the internet, there’s one component that can sometimes be left out — or more fittingly, at home — a business that can offer an experience or an activity.
